The following is a list of some of the more deadly earthquakes of the sixth seal (source: http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/world/world_deaths.php)
Date | Event | Magnitude | Casualties |
2010/01/12 | Haiti region | 7.0 | 316000 |
1976/07/27 | Tangshan, China | 7.5 | 242769 |
2004/12/26 | Sumatra | 9.1 | 227898 |
1920/12/16 | Haiyuan, Ningxia (Ning-hsia), China | 7.8 | 200000 |
1923/09/01 | Kanto (Kwanto), Japan | 7.9 | 142800 |
1948/10/05 | Ashgabat (Ashkhabad), Turkmenistan (Turkmeniya, USSR) | 7.3 | 110000 |
2008/05/12 | Eastern Sichuan, China | 7.9 | 87587 |
2005/10/08 | Pakistan | 7.6 | 80000 |
While some of the most deadly earthquakes are listed above, there are smaller earthquakes all the time which sometimes slip past our attention. The following is a list of earthquakes worldwide in a span of less than two years (2005-2007). The source of this information was CNN, but the URL we previously used no longer works.
Many, many more quakes have occurred since this page was originally written. See Wikipedia for a more in-depth look at earthquakes, here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lists_of_earthquakes; strangely, most of the earthquakes listed in our table, from the USGS, are not listed on this page's 'deadliest'. Haiti and Sumatra are both missing, for example.
Also, this YouTube channel has tracking and predictions by an earthquake enthusiast. He is not a religious guy who thinks the end of the world is near. However, he has noted that countless earthquakes are quickly downgraded by the USGS and he suspects that is so statistics won't show how bad things are. He keeps all initial gradings. Take what he says with a grain of salt and use your own judgment.
